KMC will remain the main and title sponsor for the coming years on our road to the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games

Nukeproof joins as Bike Partner and new second title sponsor

 – we continue our Mission Part 5!

We are happy and proud to announce that KMC  will remain the main sponsor of our international mountainbike Team in 2026, 2027 and 2028.  

Since 2017, we have been working with KMC, the world’s largest chain manufacturer, and have achieved great results and also worked structurally on the Team’s development.  

After enjoying riding Ridley for the past few years and achieving great success, it is time for a change.  

For the next three years, the Team will ride the new brand of the Belgian Cycling Factory, Nukeproof. An American brand of origin, founded in 1990, even before mountain biking became an Olympic sport (Atlanta, USA, 1996). The sport of mountain biking also began in the 1970s in Marin County, California.    

Nukeproof, whose tagline is ‘it’s an attitude’ are renowned for innovative, high quality bikes and brings a rich race pedigree in gravity and enduro to the team. We find the perfect fit in that.

The next Olympic Summer Games in 2028, will bring back mountain biking to its roots where it all started, in California USA. LA2028 will be the first Olympic Games back in the USA, after the Centennial Games of Atlanta 1996, where mountain biking became an Olympic discipline.

Das HC Rennen, in Chelva (ESP), sollte ich mitnehmen, damit sich das Team an uns und wir an das Team gewöhnen konnten. Es ist natürlich wichtig zu wissen, wer was wann am Renntag braucht. Jeder ist da anders. So startete auch ich bei der International Chelva Challenge.

Die Strecke in Chelva hat viel losen Splitt und ist mit scharfen Steinen gepflastert. Teilweise ist es ziemlich schnell, bergab wie auch leicht bergauf. Spannend ist für mich auch die Reifenwahl, da ich seit Januar auf Reifen von Vittoria unterwegs bin. Was hält jetzt hier auf dem losen Splitt? Wie robust sind die Reifen gegen die scharfen Steinkanten? Wie wenig Luftdruck kann man fahren? Nach einem guten Start ließ ich die Mädels ziehen, ich wollte (konnte?) bei ihnen nicht mitfahren. Nach 4 moderaten Runden habe ich in der letzten Runden noch etwas Gas gegeben. Ich wurde 14te. Damit bin ich super zufrieden.

Talented Carla Hahn will be
our new ‘Women U23’ rider!

Ready to start our Team’s Mission Part 5, the ride towards the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles, USA

We are very pleased to welcome Carla Hahn (Germany, born June 20, 2005) as our new U23 rider, silver medalist at the European XCO U23 Championships in 2024.

Carla is a very talented mountainbiker with some great achievements already.

Her love for nature, and her love for  mountain biking – ‘freedom’ to Carla -, are reasons why she will fit perfectly in our 2025 Team Line Up, next to her achievements so far.

Bart Brentjens, Team Director of ‘KMC Ridley Mountainbike Racing Team’:

“We are very happy to welcome Carla to the team. Carla is a very talented rider, with a lot of ambition and focus. Her biggest wish is to become ‘Olympic Champion’ and she is definitely not afraid to stand up for her dream. I like that attitude.

Carla has been riding since she was 4 years old! You can see this in her way of riding. She is very technical and she is a fast starter and sprinter. She is very motivated and also part of the German army, she is in an a special German program for athletes. This shows her ‘hardworking attitude’ and her discipline.

I think Carla has everything to become one of the best female mountain bikers in the world, and we are happy to start Mission Part 5 together with Carla, as one of our youngest team riders with a lot of potential.”

Zum 5. Mal ist das Team um Bart Brentjens auf dem Weg sich für die Olympischen Spiele vorzubereiten. Die Spiele sind 2028 in Los Angeles. In #Mission 5 darf ich beim Olympiasieger Bart Brentjens und seinem Team teilhaben. Für #Mission Part 5 haben wir im KMC Ridley MTB Racing Team auch einen neuen Slogan #Runway2LA2028.

Bart Brentjens ist der erste Goldmedaillengewinner bei Olympia im XCO. Er gewann in 1996 in Atlanta die erste Goldmedaille. 2004 in Athen konnte er nochmals eine Medaille erreichen, dieses Mal Bronze. Dies animierten ihn anderen Athleten die Möglichkeit zu geben durch beste Möglichkeiten in der Vorbereitung Medaillen bei Olympia zu erlangen. Und jetzt darf ICH bei #Mission Part 5 auf dem Weg nach Los Angeles teilnehmen.

Die Mädels aus dem 2006er Jahrgang kommen nach, und da sind sehr starke dabei.

Es fanden die MTB Europameisterschaften in Cheile Gradistei (Rumänien) vom 08.05. – 12.05.2024 statt. Mittwoch, XCC Qualifikation

Sonntag, XCO U23 Women, Elite Women, Elite Men

Ich durfte auf Grund meiner bisherigen guten Leistungen als Kategorie-Jüngste (Rookie) mit zu den Europameisterschaften. Als junger Jahrgang heißt es eigentlich, dass man mal reinschnuppert, ja, mal schaut. Valentina Corvi (ITA) und ich, haben aber bei den World Cups in Mairipora und Araxa, beides Brasilien, gezeigt, dass wir jetzt schon beachtliche Leistungen erzielen können. Aber es gibt ja noch weitere sehr gute Konkurrentinnen aus dem 2005 Jahrgang.

Cheile Gradistei liegt auf etwa 1300 m Höhe in den Karpaten, überhalb des Schlosses (Bran) des „Grafen von Dracula“. Es ist eine große Sportanlage mit Biathlonzentrum, paar kürzeren Skipisten, Eis- und Schwimmhalle, Sport- und Tennisplätze. Ich denke, dass dies ein Trainingszentrum für rumänische Sportler ist.

Zu Beginn der Veranstaltung gab es noch eine Regeländerung für den Short-Race (XCC). Hier wurden die Elite und die U23-Klasse zusammengefasst, so dass es nur eine UCI-Punktewertung gab. Aber es gab eine separate Wertung in den Altersklassen für die Meisterschaften.

Zu den Rennen
Am Mittwoch fanden die 2 Qualirennen für die Frauen statt. Es regnete und die Strecke war sehr rutschig. Vor allem eine steile Böschung war die große Challenge, ob man da hoch kommt oder absteigen musste. Gemeinsam mit der Elite Weltmeisterin Pauline Ferrand-Prevot (FRA) startete ich im 2. Heat, sie aus der 1. Reihe ich aus der letzten. Am Start kam ich super weg und konnte noch vor der Weltmeisterin in die erste Abfahrt gehen. Am Ende sprintete ich mit Marta Cano Espinosa (ESP) um Platz 1 in U23. Meine Endzeit entsprach etwa der Siegerzeit aus Heat 1.

Donnerstag fand am Nachmittag das Finale statt. Die Strecke war noch durchnässter, an einer sehr steilen Böschung, half man mit Sägemehl nach, trotzdem mussten viele absteigen. Dieses Mal stand ich in der 3. Reihe, ich kam gut los, fuhr den etwas weiteren Weg um die Techzone und konnte so dem ersten Stau aus dem Weg gehen. War dann vorne unter den ersten 5. An der besagten Böschung fuhr ich leider in eine Fahrerin, die dort absteigen musste und so zogen einige andere an mir vorbei, unter anderem Ella Maclean-Howell (GBR, Silber). Ich konnte diese Lücke nicht mehr schließen. Kira Böhm (GER, Gold) war noch weiter weg. So stand ich dann als Dritte, mit Bronze auf dem Podest.

Sonntag fand unser XCO-Rennen statt. Es regnete bei ca. 5° in Strömen. Die Strecke war inzwischen völlig durchnässt. Die UCI-Kommissäre nahmen eine kurze Schleife aus der Strecke, welche überhaupt nicht zu fahren gewesen wäre. Der strake Regen hatte zwei Vorteile, der erste ist, dass der Lehm nicht Schaltung, Reifen und Kettenführung verkleben und zweitens war auch sicher, dass die zwei Bären, welche vor dem Team-Relay auf der Strecke waren, bei so einem Wetter lieber in ihrer Höhle blieben.
Am Start „ließen“ mich wieder alle von hinten nach vorne durch. Kira Böhm, Luisa Daubermann (GER), Valentina Corvi (ITA) und ich fuhren nach dem Startloop in die erste und längste Abfahrt. Monique Halter (SUI) folgte. Nun entwickelte sich ein Battle zwischen uns, Valentina musste als erste reißen lassen, danach Luisa. Dann zogen Kira und Monique weg. Von hinten kamen Ella Maclean-Howell (GBR) und Anina Hutter (SUI) immer besser ins Fahren. Ich konnte wieder zu Kira aufschließen und sie auch in der vorletzten Runde überholen. Anina wurde immer stärker, aber ich konnte die 2. Position halten.
